7th Annual Competition

T he Holy Qur’an and the Ahl ul-Bayt (as) are the greatest and the most important assets that we, as Muslims, have available to us. We gain our knowledge of life, religion, and the path through which we can get closer to Allah (swt) from this holy book. Therefore we believe it to be an obligation to build a foundation from which the people can familiarize themselves with and take advantage of the resources of the Holy Qur’an, now more than ever.

  • Memorization (Hefz)

    Participants are to be Judged and scored based on their quality of Hifz, La’ahn/Sa’awt and Tajweed.

  • Recitation (Qira'at)

    Participants are to be judged and scored based on their quality of La’ahn/Sa’awt and Tajweed. Only Tahqiq and no Tartil recitation.

  • Chanting (Tartil)

    Participants are to be judged based on their quality of hymnody according to Ahkaam al-Tajweed (rules of recitation)

  • Interpretation (Mafaheem)

    Participants are to be judged based on their ability to answer and explain the specific Ayas requested by judge.

Rules & Regulations

  • Sisters and brothers will compete in separate groups.
  • One may participate in all areas; memorization, recitation and commentary.
  • Categories may be changed or cancelled, based on participation or other considerations.
  • The competition will be judged based as per the “narration of Hafs ‘anil-‘Aasim” and the decision of the judge will be final.
  • The competition will have two sections: preliminaries and final stage. Contestants for the final stage will be selected in the preliminaries, and are expected to recite/answer questions in front of the audience. Winners will be granted awards in the final stage. 

Categories

The Annual Quran Competition is divided into two age categories of below 18 and above 18 in the following areas:

  • Memorization (Hefz): Participants are to be Judged and scored based on their quality of Hifz, La’ahn/Sa’awt and Tajweed.
  • Recitation (Qira’at): Participants are to be judged and scored based on their quality of La’ahn/Sa’awt and Tajweed. This section is only Tahqiq and no Ta’artil recitation.
  • Chanting (Tartil): Participants are to be judged based on their quality of hymnody according to Ahkaam al-Tajweed (rules of recitation)
  • Interpretation: Participant will be scored based on their ability to answer and explain the specific Ayas that the judge will request and the quality of their answers. Each participant will be given sufficient time to cover the subject.

    1. Level 1: Sura 94 (Ages 7 and under)
    2. Level 2: Sura 89 (Ages 12 and under)
    3. Level 3: Sura 67 (Ages 13 and older)
  2. Chanting (Tartil)
    1. Level 1: Sura 67 (Ages 16 and under)
    2. Level 2: Joz 27/28 (Ages 17 and older)
  3. Recitation (Ghara’at)
  4. Interpretation (Mafaheem):
    1. Level 1: (Study guide A*) (Ages 16 and under)
    2. Level 2: (Study guide B*) (Ages 17 and older)
